Muddy
Waters The Hoochie Coochie Men című dalát a legendás hard/heavy
basszer, Bob Daisley választotta blues-rock zenekarának, miután vissza
érkezett szülőföldjére, Ausztráliába. Bob olyan előadokkal alkotott
korábban, mint Ozzy Osbourne, Garry Moore, Black Sabbath, Kahvas Jute,
Uriah Heap, Rainbow, Mungo Jerry, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen és a
Chicken Shack. Két társat talált maga mellé. Tim Gaze gitáros énekes
dalszerzőt, aki Ariel, Tamam Shud, Kahvas Jute, Rose Tattoo, Pete Wells
Band, Gyan, Stevie Wright és The Blues Doctors zenekarokban
csillogtatta korábban blues riffjeit. A harmadik társ Rob Grosser dobos
énekes dalszerő lett, aki Jeff St John, The Aliens, News, Wayne
Gillespie and The Blues Doctors-ban játszott korábban. 2002-2003-ban
volt igazán aktív a The Hoochie Coochie Men. Megjelent saját nevükön,
majd Live at the Basement címmel kiadványuk, aztán eltűntek a blues
kocsmák hátsó szobáiban. A dupla CD érdekessége, hogy a Deep Purpleután
komolyzenébe öregedő, legendás Hammond hercege, Jon Lord működik közre
rajta.
For those of us who have wondered what happened to the
Jon Lord of yesterday, this CD answers that question once and for all.
Jon plays his Hammond with all the passion and gusto he did back in the
halcyon days of Deep Purple's MkII line-up. Not synths, no piano, no
ARP Ensemble, just good old raw Hammond organ. While the blues genre
gets a little old, it's so great to hear him playing organ that you
almost don't notice the repetitive nature of the material. That said, I
don't believe I've ever made it through the entire show in one sitting.
I usually get about half-way through and then I'm ready for a change. I
would have loved more of this classic Hammond sound on Purpendicular
and Abandon, which would have helped those albums immensely. Here, he
plays with a fire and passion that his latter day Purple albums lacked.
Overall, a great return to form for one of rock's premier keyboard
players. I'd love to see him return to his rock roots a little more
often, just to remind the world what a real Hammond player sounds like.
